About DOLLY: A True Original Musical

DOLLY: A True Original Musical brings the life and music of Dolly Parton to the stage. The story follows her from a childhood in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee through the early years of her career and her rise to international fame. Rather than focusing only on her success, the musical also explores the ambition, setbacks and personal choices that helped shape the person behind the familiar public image.

Parton's music forms the heart of the show. The score includes some of her best-known songs, among them "Jolene", "I Will Always Love You", "Coat of Many Colors" and "9 to 5", as well as new songs created especially for the musical. Parton co-wrote the book with Maria S. Schlatter. Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher directs, with choreography by Mandy Moore and music supervision by Stephen Oremus.

The musical received its world premiere at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville in 2025. During its development it was previously known as Hello, I'm Dolly and Dolly: An Original Musical. The production is set to move to Broadway's St. James Theatre, with previews scheduled to begin on 7 December 2026 ahead of an official opening on 19 January 2027.
